Now in Color

a debut two-person online exhibition by Gulal Art Collective

Now in Color begins with a simple premise: two painters, working at full force, right now. Kajal Zaveri and Rujuta Paradkar are based in the New York–New Jersey area and share one instinct , that color, applied freely and without apology, is the most direct conversation a canvas can have with a room. Their practices are entirely different in subject: Kajal reaches outward toward landscape, open sky, and the rhythm of natural light; Rujuta draws inward toward the intimate study of surface, and the drama of everyday objects. But the temperature of their work is the same; bold, warm, alive, and completely present. This exhibition shows what each artist is making right now. No retrospective, no selected highlights from across careers. These are current paintings from two active studios, shown together for the first time as a collective statement. The thesis is visible in the work itself: that bold color, applied with joy and instinct, is a serious artistic position — and one that both artists have claimed as entirely their own. This is the beginning of Gulal.

Meet the artists

KAJAL ZAVERI: Kajal Zaveri paints landscapes because landscapes hold everything ; places that echo what we carry, what we move through, what we survive and celebrate. Her abstract and semi-abstract canvases are built in oil and acrylic through layering and palette knife, surface by surface, until the painting breathes. Born in India, shaped by California, now fully at home in Manhattan. Her work has been featured in Elle Décor, placed through Williams Sonoma Home, and shown at major art fairs from Miami to the Hamptons. Link label:

RUJUTA PARADKAR: Rujuta Paradkar begins each painting loosely and follows where it leads. Raised in India and shaped by years living in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka before settling in New York, she brings a genuinely global visual education to canvases grounded in observation and instinct. She paints with the patience of someone who has never stopped being astonished by what color can do. Represented by galleries in Canada, Ohio, and Florida. ArtExpo New York exhibitor every year since 2022.
