Kajal Zaveri doesn't paint places. She paints the feeling of having been somewhere.
Born in India, shaped by California, and now rooted in New York — her life has moved across landscapes, and so has her work. She builds her canvases in layers: bold, tactile, unapologetic in colour. Oil and intuition doing what memory alone cannot. There is no fixed reference point. No named valley or particular shore. Just the feeling of golden light on water, or the weight of monsoon air, rendered in strokes thick enough to touch.
At Gulal, we are drawn to artists who carry colour like a second language — and Kajal is one of them. Her work doesn't ask you to look at a place. It asks you to remember one. To bring your own light, your own summer, your own somewhere, and find it waiting on the canvas.
She paints from the inside out. The rest is yours. Her work has been featured in Elle Décor, Williams Sonoma Home, and PopSugar, and is held in private collections across the United States and internationally.
